Design automation for offsite MEP manufacturers

Send the quote while others are still drawing it.

A tender lands on Thursday afternoon, due Monday. Your estimator enters the job, and the software designs it to your own rules: 3D model, production drawings, bill of materials and price, in minutes. Your designers spend Friday checking, not drawing.

The demos run on illustrative design rules and a sample catalogue. Yours would run on your own rules, parts and prices.

What it did for one client

Before2 weeksto turn round a quote
After30 minuteswith a 3D model for Revit and every production drawing

One client was taking two weeks to price each job for their customers. Now they reply in 30 minutes. In that half hour the customer gets a digital quote with a 3D model for Revit, and the design automation has already produced every production drawing the factory needs.

Digital by Design is the software team at by Design. We already produce production drawings for modular manufacturers in the UK and US.

Live design automation demo

Enter the job. Watch it design, draw, check and price itself.

Pick a product and change the inputs. Every change runs the design rules again and redesigns the model, the drawings, the bill of materials, the checks and the price. Drag the model to turn it.

This runs on our sample design rules and prices. Pick one of your jobs and we'll set it up with your own rules and a sample of your catalogue, so you see your own product designed, drawn and priced.

Try it on your own job

How a quote usually goes

Your product is standard. Why does every quote still start with a blank drawing?

You know the parts, the frame, the spacings and the design rules. But every tender is still designed by hand, one step at a time, and every revision sends it round again.

  1. Drawings and schedules arrive with the tenderday 1
  2. Estimator takes off and prices from the price file+ 1 to 3 days
  3. Designer models it and draws the fabrication set+ the CAD queue
  4. Engineer checks it against your rules+ 1 day
  5. Revision B landsback to step 2

Estimators and CAD set your capacity

You can only price as many tenders as your team can model. Every one you can't turn round in time is a job you never see.

Mistakes surface on the shop floor

A board without spare ways, a pipe that won't fit the frame, a skid too long for the trailer. Each costs far more to fix in the factory than at quote.

What design automation does

Your best designer's rules, running on every job.

Catalogue

Your parts, codes, prices, weights and labour times, held in one place your team keeps up to date.

Design rules

How you design and build: sizes, spacings, clearances, what fits where, what needs a label and when to split for transport.

Automatic outputs

A 3D model, fabrication drawings, cut lists, bill of materials, picking list and a priced quote, generated by the rules rather than drawn by hand.

Connections

A Revit toolbar, links to your ERP or price file, and logins for your estimators and, if you want, your customers.

The four demos are examples. Design automation suits panelboards, MCCs, feeder pillars, EV boards, booster sets, HIU cupboards, utility cupboards, kitchen pods and plant room modules: anything you build from a known catalogue to a customer's drawings.

Your rules

Write down how your product goes together. Once.

Your team carries the design rules in their heads. We sit with them, write the rules down and build them into the software, so the design happens automatically. From then on every model and drawing follows them, on every quote. These are the rules running in the demo.

DESIGN RULESDEMO v2

Illustrative. Your rules, part codes, prices and labour times will be your own.

How we work

Start with one of your own jobs. Decide from there.

Every product is different, so we don't sell a box. You see your own job designed by the software before you commit to anything.

  1. Pick one of your jobs

A real tender or schedule and a sample of your price file, in whatever format you have.

    Free
  2. See your own product

We set your rules up in the demo and show you your own job being designed, on a 45 minute call.

    Free, online
  3. Workshop

A day with your estimators and designers and your own drawings. We write the rules down and agree the first version.

    At your factory
  4. Build in stages

Each stage priced before it starts and reviewed as we go. You can stop at any review, and the work done so far is handed over.

    No open-ended spend

Next step

Try it on one of your own jobs.

Tell us what you build and we'll ask for one real tender or schedule. We set it up and show you your own product being designed. If design automation won't pay back for you, we'll say so.
